Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at east of Dale Village in Xiangzhou County. It was named by Bai S.L. & Ning Z.S. in 1982.


Lithology and Thickness

Shallow-marine marl. It is dominated by earth-yellow, green-yellow mudstone composed mainly of hydromica clay minerals, intercalated with bioclastic and micritic limestone, which are more developed in the upper. Few dolomitic limestone and algal limestone are observed. Main fossils are brachiopods and bivalves. It is 120.7 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Contact with underlying Tonggen Fm is not clear because of poor exposures in the drilling hole.

Upper contact

Contact with overlying Guanqiao Dolomite Fm is also unclear

Regional extent

This formation is restrictively distributed in the Dale area, west side of Dayaoshan

Fossils

It contains relatively numerous Bivalves Actinoperia sp., Goniophora sp., Goniophoriopsis sp., Pholadella sp., Mulationella sp., Newellipecten sp., Mytilarca sp., Modiomorpha sp., Orthomota sp., Paracyclas sp., Schizodus sp., and lower diversity Brachiopods Howellela sp., Delthyris s., Chonetes sp., Orientospirifer wangi. Few Nowakia longlingensis and Conodont Polygnathus perbonus have been reported
